Thanks IV for your efforts on this. This is jsut personal, but I do find the timing too much of a coincidence. My thought would be related to the increase in filing fees aspect that will now net USCIS a goldmine in terms of huge filings.
Is there a timeline we can figure out that would allow for most filings to go through at the old fee structure?
That would net some savings for filers who have multiple dependents.

It is currently taking a long time to adjudicate MTR's ( for some more than a year or so ) . I would say file a MTR and also file a new perm labor . I suggest going with EB3 rather than EB2 since rules for EB2 are now more stricter than before along with more scrutiny and RFE's. But its your own choice.
I think the new labor would get approved before you get a response for your MTR. If they clear the original labor well and good or else you would at least have the new one .

Depending on where you are traveling from you may have a direct flight to Mumbai or Delhi. Mumbai is closer to Indore and probably has better and more connections. The key is layover at both these airports to meet your flight times to Indore. Both these airports are now world class (been there just recently) and have shuttles that take you from International - your US arrival, to domestic. At Delhi the international and domestic are somewhat far off... but they provide shuttles...

All EAD renewals for the applicants whose I 485 was filed before August 17, 2007 have to pay $340 as renewal fee.. No exception.. no consfusion.

my wife is pregnant and we told the civil surgeon she tested +ve in the TB test two years ago. He decided he'll indicate that in his report and he won't ask her to do the TB test, x-rays and some vaccinations, said we can do them after she gives birth and USCIS will have no problem with that.

USCIS had issued a Direct Filing Update which stated that if the application was filed after July 30, it would have to be filed at the center which has jurisdiction over the state the applicant lives in, which in your case is Massachusetts.
USCIS has been transfering a lot of applications between the various service centers lately due to the July fiasco. Based on reports from the Ombudsman, USCIS is trying to avoid any unnecessary rejections, and take a more 'customer service' based approach, so hopefully you will be ok, and they'll just transfer the case to the appropriate service center.
I'm not a lawyer by any means, so please use this advice at your own discretion.

I filed 485 on July 2 2007 through Company 1. I left the Company 1 on July 7 2007. Company 2 had filed for PERM in June that had an approval on July 16 2007. I wana apply for 140/485 through Company 2 (concurrent filing) by this July 2007. Can I have 2 pending 485 application? I dont have the receipt for 1st 485 as it was just filed on July 2.

I do not see any option for a software engineer, Am i missing anything ?

It takes 60 days from the RFE received date to make a decision on your AP. If dec 31st passes and if you don't hear anything from USCIS, you may need to call them.
If it is an emergency travel and cannot wait for their approval, you need to visit the local USCIS office with an appointment.
I am on the same case, waiting for USCIS reponse. Thanks.
The RFE notice says minimum 14 days however USCIS standard answer is 60 days. On i saw folks who got approval after 7 days form submitting RFE so let's hope for best.

Labor process through PERM can take anywhere from 3 weeks to more than a year (after filing). Most time consuming part is (if you are just initaing the process with your employer) the pre-filing documentation.
If you have a masters or better, and your current job does not REQUIRE a Masters degree, then you might want to ask HR to change/tweak your job profile. If thats an option and they are willing to do it, might take some time, but in the longer run, you will be better off under EB2 than EB3.
You will need letters from all your previous employers, verifying the job discription
Once that is in hand, your company will have to post your job in a newspaper/internal company website/job board and also in a visible place in your company premises for a month (X + 30 days)
After that 30 day period, you wait for any responses for an addidtional 30 days (X+60 days)
After that, your company/HR/Lawyer would need some time to put everything together before filing (X + 70 days)
Bear in mind this is the best case scenario. I started the process in December mid...filed for Labor in 1st week of June.
On your second point (dates being current), Iam very doubtfull that by the time Iam ready to file for 140/485, the dates will be current.
And ofcourse, if this ain't too daunting, THE CIR might put a wrench in your best laid plans, There is a talk about May 15th being the deadline for this process, untill Oct-08 when the new point system comes into play...good luck
