Bulls eye. this is what I am thinking.
I am looking for an answer in general for all.
As Chandu pointed out, in general, AOS (pending 485) status gives some protection in terms of maintaining legal status in between jobs. 'Technically' once six months are completed at the employer on whose job the I-485 has been submitted - we should be good. But the issue is AC21 process is not a well streamlined one - no forms etc. Earlier the volume of these cases might be very low for USCIS; now after the July 2007 there are lot more people in the I-485 stage and recent economic conditions could have contributed to large number of people using/potentially using AC21 process to change jobs. Heard many issues - hope USCIS will streamline the process for AC21 job change issues.

Ahh, I was wondering what happened to the nay sayers. Here we go again. I agree with the general consensus that owning a house is a personal matter; depends on each person's own situation. I am amazed by why some folks are hell bent on making others agree to their extreme opinion; be it "yes you must buy" or "no you must not buy". Everyone is correct in what they think is right for them. For the record, I don't own a house, at least not yet. :)

Thanks for your advise and i agree with your thoughts.
I thought of leaving this company several times, but I am working in this company for 6 years and the only company I worked after coming to USA. I invested so much for this company, like working beyond work hours, working in the weekends, making up the project deadlines for the incompetitive colleagues etc. etc. and now just waiting for my Green Card. There were so many times I thought if I get my Green Card I am going to leave this moment. Years passing by and with this retrogression thing, there is very little hope of getting it soon...
The positive thing is, my direct supervisor is very nice and I can voice my opinion and she understands me and completely supports me. I am just praying god that I should keep working for her till I get the GC.
I would only say "Hang On", or move on if you can. A lot of people in same situations, never want to discuss issues openly.
Patience does help, and maybe all the good is stored for future.
Most important is how you deal with stress associated with racial slurs, difference in treatment, and all the above issues. This has direct impact on health and many people in these conditions are victims of stress.
The h1b - GC situation is well known to everyone and they know you are indentured, some managers are called problem solvers (they pretend to hear ur voice, help you from their side and get the work done and try to ease pressure off you if they have an option), whereas some managers are called problem creators (they add additional pressure on you and make u miserable so that they get the work done). The reason companies support their American workers who involve in racial slurs is to avoid issues. It is easy to kick you out and blame you rather than catering to ur problem.

I filed for my I-485, EAD and AP on July 2nd at the Nebraska Service Center. I am EB2 with a PD of June, 04. I haven't received any receipt notices. Any one in the same boat/ who has been through this process would like to share their views? Also, given the current fiasco, by when should I expect finger printing notice and, realistically, the green card?

Let us say USCIS has unused visas, which they want to allocate and they have moved cutoff dates to Jun, 2006 for EB2, similarly Sep 03 for EB3.
My question is, will the visa issuance would be in the order of Priority Dates? or Notification Dates? Recently there has been lot of pressure on USCIS to issue processing results based on Priority Dates, will this force USCIS to correct its ways and issue visas based on Priority Dates.

I have listened to a couple of speaches by Bernake in NPR. Basically that guy is completely in the blank on how to handle the economy. He simply says, we are in this mess, because the lenders were very lenient. Fed measures such as interest rate cut and pumping money into the banking system is causing the dollar to fall thus further weakening the economy.
I say, we all write to Bernake that some 10, 000 immigrants will buy homes if we all get a GC. 10, 000 may or may not buy a home, but let us just polish the numbers a little bit. 10,000 * 300,000 (average home price) = 1 million billion dollars . Actually the total figure is 3 billion $$; enough to give a massive jolt to the sagging economy. I think we should also write to Wall Street journal and all major news paper organizations about this.
In America, people gets recognized when they offers a solution for a problem faced by the country. Whiners are (who write to Bush or Senators) do not get noticed nor are respected.
I can understand your anciousness in getting green card,,but the problem now is to make existing home owners to pay off their mortgage bills and tied to their home than giving to the bunch of immigrants aspiring to buy out from them in a give away price....

Can parents stay here for 5 1/2 months go back for say a month or two and come back again for 5 1\2 months? Would this pattern be suspected during visa renewal?
if its a 10 year visa...i doubt there should be a concern about visa renewal.
Hopefully in 10 years you have GC and USC :)

It will bring down the workload? Can you explain how? If anyone in the world is eligible to apply for the GC without sponsorship, the system will be flooded with applications, irrespective of whether they carry any merit or not. What makes you think that an organization that cannot process 140K applications per year can handle millions?
The point based system sounds great in theory, but cannot be implemented efficiently by the U.S. as long as it remains the most desired country for immigrants. It works for Canada, Australia and the U.K. because fewer people want to move there.
Anybody wont be eligible. Canada has been fine tuning the immigration since 2002.
Now only people who have studied or worked in Canada on work permit are eligible.
family based is greatly restricted unlike US where around 80 is non-skill based.
If they want they always reform but the exiting H1B is so good for American Companies that they will fight to keep the existing H1B-GC servitude instead of
any point based..
Plus there is politics of vote bank: Moment the CIR comes, the sheer stampede of illegal lobby like the bulls of Spain, H1B folks get crushed. Last time, moment the CIR came, H1B people started opposing it because it literally made illegals ahead in line line with more points in the point based system.
That's why I am skeptical of CIR as of now. H1bs don't have much chance in front
of the madness of illegal lobby vote bank. Based on my observations of how the
US politics works I don't see promise in CIR (one of main reasons I left for Canada)
Not to mention, a lot of antis are not that against EB reform but moment CIR comes
all anti-s get united in opposition. The illegal bobby hold H1Bs as hostage unless they get what they want. It is such a deadlock that I just don't see how it can be fixed.
Unless there is another super powerful lobby helping us like US industry (supreme powerful lord in US politics) which currently wants the existing H1B system I don't see headway.
