Actually very true. I for one have held off on buying a gun (though my wife highly disapproves of guns) simply because I dont have a GC and dont want any hassles. Besides I live in Chicago which has a ban on guns. Ironic that the maximum killings and drive by shootings happen maybe 30-40 blocks from where I live but the city doesnt allow legal law-abiding residents to own guns.
It isn't an outright ban. Chicago doesn't allow concealed carry, and requires guns to be registered, but you can own guns. Yes, the process for legally owning a gun in Chicago I understand is very tedious (sad, I know), but not impossible. Much like NYC.

I agree, you will be competing with all the illegals. But.....
1. How likely are they to file their apps on the first allowable day that USCIS will accept the applications? Not very. Most of us know what's going on and will be ready to send in our apps first. Ofcourse if some EB based guy is pottering around instead of moving fast, thats his problem.

I do have both Criminal attorney and Immigration attorney representing me, they say it should be fine. Again they say its upto the VO at POE. can I request the attorney to come to the airport during my POE time, so that i can request the VO to talk to my attorney?

I highly doubt that would be necessary. Just take an evaluation document from your immigration attorney as to why your conviction doesnot render you inadmissible.
Also when asked for explanation, give a honest and sincere explanation, showing remorse would help too.

Hi,
Good work guys.
My contribution of $100 by paper check went out today.
Weeks turned into months, months into years passively looking out to get GC thinking that you being an honest individual, contributor to the industry and economy and society here, you will get it soon.
Then comes the bombshell of retrogression telling you to stick to your same job, employer and salary not for 2-3 years but something like 5-6 or more years, while away your most productive years of life waiting for GC uncertain and unable to get on with your normal life, unable to make major decisions of life.
A flicker of hope was raised by the senate bill in dec 2005 that the wait will come to an end. But just so little of political support, lot of apathy and ignorance, and determined opposition by well funded anti-immigration lobbies killed that hope.
Now one realises you are up against a solid, a very solid challenge. Only a focussed and organised action can overcome this challenge.
The momentum of individual activity during nov-dec 2005 was very good. It will be needed again. But that activity alone did not get us the results. What is needed here is an organised and focussed efforts by committed people backed by good funding. That's the way America works.
And this is what I see Immigration Voice doing. And it will need more members, money contribution and activism by the aspirants.
Hence guys, contribute and spread the word. dig out your address books, send the mails, call your friends, colleagues and request them to join the effort.
Few things I would like to mention:
The immigration issue has gathered a good steam in US politics. Something will surely get done by the congress about the whole immigartion issue soon. Our issue is one part of it. If we miss this bus, this topic of immigration is not going to get hot for many more years.
We are also up against formidable anti-immigration forces which conveniently mixes legal immigartion with illegal one.
We are also up against a lot of ignorance and apathy on the part of politicians about legal immigration.
The lobbying by corporates is our ally in this effort. They are one of the affected party because of retrogression.
Few pro-legal-immigration members of congress are our allies in this effort.
On the whole we, as a legal immigrant community, has good deal of work to do in a very short time in a do or die situation.
Hence join Immigration Voice, contribute and give a call for action to your friends.

Need your valuable advice on this serious issue. Involved in shoplifting case, got arrested and plead guilty. Served the community service, and paid fine. Got the �Court Disposition Document� which states that I am all clear. My status is I-485 pending and have EAD, AP documents.

Any educated guesses, rumours, inside news etc? Not that it will change anything but by now USCIS would have taken stock of the situation and possibly updated their demand projections

A# is assigned during I-140 approval process. Unless you get an approved I-140 from your employer it is difficult to get the A#. BTW, I didnt knew my A# so I just left that field blank and sent I-140 Tracking number instead.

BUT I GOT HOLD OF PS 3811 FORM WHICH IS TYPICALLY GREEN FORM RECEIVING GUY SIGNS HAS STAMP OF 062907. EVEN THOUGH IT REACHED ON JULY 02
EXPLAINATION I GOT FROM USPS CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT JULY 02 BEING THE FIRST DAY AFTER LONG WEEKEND THE GUY MIGHT HAVE FORGOTTEN TO CHANGE THE DATE.
I AM WORRIED HE MIGHT HAVE NOT STAMPED THE SAME DATE ON MY APPLICATION. IN THAT CASE IT WILL BE RETURNED.

First of all, you dont have a binary choice in the matter such as either you learn 50,000 words and their spellings or go smoke dope. There is a middle ground here.
Secondly, why do I see in company after company, especially in the knowledge industry that a straight A student, like your Kavya here, working for a manager who had been a B- student who in turn works for an executive who was a C- student ?
Get educated ... that's fine. But dont get over-educated such that you are a cripple who cannot think outside the box. Too much education, too many straight As, too many spellings will make you incapable of thinking outside the box, taking risks. Anyways, that's my belief and my opinion and everyone is free to raise their kids in whatever way they deem fit. I for one, would never ask my 2 children to participate in any spelling bee contest.

By being holier than thou and telling other people "I got a degree from here and you dumb asses have never been to an American college, so get lost you idiot, this job here is mine..." does not help anyone. Also, no desi companies put a gun to the head of anyone - Indian educated or US educated - to work for them. And let me remind you, there is AN ENTIRE GENERATION of US educated US masters degree holders who had no job after graduating and have been to a desi company to get trained on the real-world software applications. I am sure you know some people yourself, just as I know some people in that situation. If the US masters degree made them super-duper smart, then they would not be knocking doors of desi companies for education after graduating.
I am no fan of desi companies, everyone here knows that. But don't preach a holier than thou sermon to everyone who doesn't have a US degree. Because your US degree isn't worth a bucket of warm spit when it comes to getting a job.
I guess you are speaking like Tom Peters. But in the end, it all depends on where one wants to be and what is the world view of someone. If one thinks that just because someone is a manager over others, that makes that someone better and more successful than others, and if most B- students manage A+ students (which is fuzzy maths), yes, in that case it maybe that its better to get a B- grade than A+, and there is no need to go to business school either. If the world view and the objective is not just to become a manager or make 100K instead of 120K, but actually do something worthwhile in every stage of your life, rather than just having an objective of becoming a manager, maybe its about learning a language and words, then why not. Strong vocabulary is the first stage to clear expression and clear expression is the corner stone of a successful and satisfying career, including bring a manager. I don't see anything wrong with learning more words, or loving parents or obedient children. Everyone has a different age in their life when we revolt against the environment, just to break free. Its not necessary that one must continue to revolt an entire lifetime to be creative or be better than others. Bill Gates or Steve jobs never wanted to become just managers, they wanted to re-invent the future. College dropouts, but successful. But how many Gates and Jobs do we have? I guess there is no clear definition of success and different people gauge success differently, but most people, more so in this crowd on this forum, relate success to level of education/university (US masters or Bachelors from India), and title at work place. But maybe the key is not how others gauge your success, but how you gauge yourself. Maybe you have set your eyes on squeezing most number of lemons or maybe being fastest eater of a water melon, or climbing on top of rhinoceros back, whatever it is, if you have done it and you feel satisfied, you will see yourself as successful. In the state of Mass delivery is covered by the State provided you show you don't have insurance. Millions of single moms are delivering and many are teenagers and many are w/o any insurance.
