I would advise against going outside of your district to apply.
If you are going to go via drop-box then they may not even accept your applications for stamping based on your Kerala address on your form for H1. If they do, they could very well reject it and ask you to go to Chennai consulate.
Why would you want to risk that?
Chennai does not have an availability till Oct and I am in INDIA in May. I was trying till today to get an apptmt in Chennai but not successful.
I have an AP (through my wife company GC petition), worst case I will use it.

I will certainly update on this site once I get a final answer from US Consulate, Montreal. So for no NEWS...
My father in law was visiting me and had a heart attack last night. He has been hospitalised at Hilcrest Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio and is scheduled to go back on 4/19/08.
Will a letter from the Hospital will be helpfull or might have a negative impact in my case. They may think this is a fabricated story. Some of my friends are taking care of him but there is no other immidiate family memeber with him accept me and my MIL is also all alone at home.
Any Suggestions/thoughts??

My situation:
I've been given offers by two companies, A and B.
I am currently under my F1 student visa, OPT status, my OPT started at July 2010.
Company A is now processing my H1B petition, and this is the first time I apply for H1B. But I haven't started to work for them yet, they set the start date to be in Jan. next year. They just filed my H1B petition before Thanksgiving.
Right now, I decided not to work for Company A for some personal reasons, and I will work for Company B next year February. (2011) And Company B is going to file a H1B petition for me after the Thanksgiving holiday.
My issue is, Company A is going to terminate the H1B visa process from my end, and ends the employment relation with me. Will I be out of status, if Company A withdraw their H1B petition filed for me? How can I avoid this problem. What should I ask Company A to do, and what should I ask Company B to do.
I am willing to give more details if an attorney can really help me answer my questions. I would really appreciate that! It's kind of urgent. Thanks very much!

If you get salary in INR which is credited to your Indian Bank A/c
then you should be fine.
If you get salary in USD credited to US Bank A/C then its ILLEGAL.

I'm EB3-ROW and at the last stage of I-485 processing. Just waiting for the bulletin to tell me I'm current. Two weeks ago, I found out my lawyer has been blacklisted. Just like Fragomen. Apparently my lawyer performed "too many miracles."
Now I wish to change lawyers to avoid risk of RFEs, denial, etc. Should I do it? What is involved in the switch of lawyers? Just a simple G28? Any risks involved?
Would appreciate any opinions on this matter. Thank you.

NRO accuont--> earns very high interest rates (was 11%) just a few months ago. There will be TDS but you can file an income tax return and claim the amount that they deducted above what you would be taxed.
For eg:- if your total interest earned is 100,000 they would withhold upto 30% of it (may be lesser depending upon your situation). When you file your returns your total income is only 100,000 which is below the taxable limits and therefor you will be returned all that was witheld. Only those with interests >180,000 per anum will really lose money.
Some people split accounts and try to hide interest income. This is not advisable if you ever want to repatriate the interest income. Once you have payed required taxes on the interest you can repatriate any amount of interest income to the US. Many people use this as a source of regular income.

he checked something in the system and asked me to go inside..
Took baggage..went into customs...where they sent me into another room.
CBP officer took the AP..felt bad that I have been waiting since 2007 for GC..in < 5 mins, stamped and said, good luck..you are done.

Yes, ICICI bank do not allow more than 4 part pre-payments in a year. I am not sure if it is a calendar year. You can ask ICICI for the part pre-payment terms. When I inquired, they sent me a PDF file.
I had this issue because I wanted to pay-off my loan to avoid the increasing interest rate. Mine was floating. The officer who sold me the loan gave some misguiding concept "interest rate will go down when the economy is booming". But the reverse happened after I took the loan. I had a floating rate of 7% in Sept 2004. But within a year and half it almost crossed 12.5%.

when you file for the 485 you can use old priority date. priority dates can be transferred if old 140 was approved and you changed the company to restart the process all over again.
Can you use an PD from an old labour application, that was approved but the labour has been used for another employee?
I think not as from your answer it appears , labour & i-140 must have been approved for the same person, just wanted to get it clarified.

Hi,
I am on H1B visa. My parents due to a medical condition cannot take care of themselves. They need someone to be present with them 24 hrs a day. Can I get them on H4 visa as dependent? I would like to keep them for 2-3 years in US and take care of them. Please let me know my options.

Parents are not considered dependents . So i am not sure they can come on H4 visa. I can understand the situation ( being the only son of my parents with deteriorating health ). Once in a while i think of getting rid of this stay in USA and heading back home and caring for the ones who raised me to adult hood.
There may be more avenues , let more knowledgeable people in this forum comment.
