The people who wants to be a part of American Society should first definately be a very open minded towards all cultures and social trends.
Other thing to be Indian or representing Indian traditions is not a crime but certainly every time barking against anything Indian may certainly be a crime as it is a clear indication of closed door or prejudicial mind towards one particular country and culture. Americans do not mind if one shows that he is Indian now and want to become in American future. Although they prefer that AND that is why they label Jindal as Indian-American although he born in USA. If there are majority Indians on IV board, it is not a crime but it is obvious. Some of my chienese friends on IV board may start thread for wishing chienese festival, I bet most Indians on this board will welcome and same goes with Muslim friends on IV board. Starting and wishing EID MUBARAK thread (By the way that is also a Indian tradition..And I am proud of that too) is not a crime and by now if nobody started it does not mean other people may not welcome it. If you are a Muslim, start the thread for EID Mubarak, I will be the first to welcome that step. You want to be American,, right? We all are working and in this economy everyone is worried about losing job if they don't go to work. I have two little kids and I work full time. I already used the vacation that I got for this year, it because of kids being sick one after the other and need to be off again next month for loss of pay for a kid's surgery. I know its just two more days and might result in something positive but I can't take a chance of losing my job and then don't have a job when it�s time for my 485 to be approved resulting in denial.
I will donate money but unfortunately, I can't come for the advocacy day. It is a sticky situation for many.

Although you bring up interesting discussion, but these stories about Neelima are really old. Dec 2005 ?
Did you see anything recent on her ? Any updates ?
As for handling these situatsions being diplomatic is best but that is easier said than done.
Also, I think we are much more likely to face these types of problems with small companies which are in remote areas.
Big corporations are much much better. I have been lucky in this regards that I have mostly worked with big corps.
These companies actually go to extra lenghts to appreciate diversity.
In fact last year in my current client Indians organized big Diwali festival celebrations to
give American people a chance to enjoy Indian food and learn about our culture.
Its not all bad. There are some very very good facets as well.

So looks like only the renewal will have a delay. First-timers won't face much difficulties.
It might be a problem for those people working on EAD and waiting for renewal since they can't work if the renewal does not come in time. Why does USCIS not allow grace period for people to work based on receipt , the same way it does for H1b??

Agreed it's frustrating to go thru a roller-coaster ride as far as GC is concerned. I believe members of IV are leaving no stone unturned to tide over the GC hurdles by speaking in one voice and acting in unison.
Literally, we must have the 'staying power' to do this. If people wanna go back to their home country, it's their personal decision. Impatience and frustration should not be the driving factor for people to return to their home country.

We could not even pool $10K for FOIA. For lobbying, one needs lots and lots of money in the range of 100K -200K. What can IV do? Can you explain what you mean by "something'? if all of us EB3's can pool 100K, then we can request IV to do "SOMETHING". Hope every one understands this.
How is anybody sure that by spending 5K or 10K, you will get what you are looking for? Just because somebody quoted 5K fee for such an information (which may be their standard response to such custom information extraction requests), it does not mean it can be readily found. If it were that easy, USCIS/DOS would be using it. The fact remains that PD related information does not exist other than in physical paper applications/files related with LC, I-140 and I-485. There is nothing on the system based on PD's. Don't we see it in guesswork used for advancing and retrogressing PD's. Note that for most immigration applcations PD's do not play any role. Only when at adjudication time, birth country is noted to be India/China, the officer has to check PD with respect to current cutoff dates. Systems are not designed for handling any processings based on PD's, so quick access to such information is not available - with a fee or without a fee

If I had my green card today, I would surely be making at least 15K more in my salary per annum repeat per annum.
If not all, many of you are in the similar situation.
My $200 contribution is just 1.33% of that lost opportunity per annum. If I take into consideration the 4 years of wait, it comes to 0.33%.
Almost anybody who is in US for 5 years on H1B can buy an nice little home. (Bay area is bit more cruel).
Last year I could have bought a home for say 500K. It would have surely appreciated by 50K. But because of the uncertainty of GC, I can not. That's a loss of opportunity of 50K.
My $200 contribution is just 0.4% of that another lost opportunity.
Now you know why I support this effort.
Most of you and your friends are in a situation similar as mine.
I urge you to become aware, make them aware and support this effort, which has a potential to minimize those lost financial opportunities, with your wallet.

There are 1000+ members on these forums. If everyone contributes 200$, we will have $200K. That way, the core volunteers can concentrate on getting the work done by working with QGA/lawmakers etc instead of worrying about our survival for the next month.
If we can get double this membership (each member gets one more member on board), our contributions per head can come down to just $100.
Then nviren's contributions as compared to his lost opportunities will get reduced by 50% ($200 to $100) ! So his contribution compared to the lost opportunity in terms of annual increase if he changes his job is now down from 0.33% to 0.17%.On the other hand, if we each get 5 more members, his contribution($200 to $40)/opportunity percentage is down to 0.065%....
What we can do as a group now is
a) Contribute our part
b) Get as many friends as we can to become members of IV.
