Dhundhun,
What is your source for the 1% to 5% estimate?
Internet posts. For the last 2-3 years I have been looking about and this be ball park figure given. Also as you see that there is big variation in this; 1% to 5% is a big difference.
It would be nice, if someone has better idea than this wider range.

1/2 million insurance for only $22?. i am paying $40 for $250K. can you please tell whats the name of the insurance company?.
I think if you applied for I-485, then you can say you are a PR. not sure what are the repercussions, though.

I'm EB3-ROW and at the last stage of I-485 processing. Just waiting for the bulletin to tell me I'm current. Two weeks ago, I found out my lawyer has been blacklisted. Just like Fragomen. Apparently my lawyer performed "too many miracles."
Now I wish to change lawyers to avoid risk of RFEs, denial, etc. Should I do it? What is involved in the switch of lawyers? Just a simple G28? Any risks involved?
Would appreciate any opinions on this matter. Thank you.
Do you mind sharing the name of your lawyer?
yeah, may be you shud share the name of your lawyer....who knows I might also be using this lawyer...you never know until you find out the names.

My attorney uses Fedex and we get receipts on time.
I would recommend to use Fedex instead of UPS.

Admin2 - thank u much for your motivation. I do understand IV is doing great work but if you can shed some light on whats going on behind the scenes, it you really help me decide on many things. One of the thing, my lawyer is recommending is to initiate porting to EB-2 which I understand may take anywhere around 18 mnths if all goes well...
If they can be shared with everyone, I am sure they would. But, if I were you and have an option to port to EB2, I 'd probably do that.
If porting going to cost you,you may want to wait till Jan , which is only 3 months away.

thanks for your post. Ya its my sister's wedding. I had decided to go until this H1 revocation email came. I has seen some cases on IV a while ago where people got the H1 revocation email and I-485 denied without NOID/RFE. If this happens when I am in India I am screwed.
I realize that 80% nothing will happen, but it is that off chance that something happens to I-485 when I am out of the country which has me worried.
Anyways 2 more weeks of thinking I guess before I board that flight. Hanging by this EAD/AP thread and uncertainities of AC21 etc is really painful.
Your I-485 cannot be denied just because your GC sponsoring employer revoked your H1. In past, USCIS denied or issued NOID when the GC sponsoring employer revoked the approved I-140. Do you know if your employer is going to revoke your I-140 or has already done so.
In anycase, like someone else mentioned, you can file a AC21 letter now and take a copy of the letter along with a copy of the offer letter with you. Just go and enjoy your sister's wedding with family and friends.

Hello all
starting Jan 19th 2010, all the previous forms for non-immigrant visa (DS 156, 157 and 158) are removed and one single form DS 160 is introduced. I am trying to fill that for my parents and this form is an online form and one of the questions in page 1 is "your full name in native alphabet". I remember filling that for my H1 previously where I take the printouts and write my name in that box in my native language. the new form however doesn't let you save or move forward with an empty box. the only other option there is "do not apply" and not sure if that is the right way of doing it (right now its the only way I can fill this form)
anyone who filled this form recently - can you please share what you did?
Thanks
Praveen

Hi All,
My lawyer waited until the last minute and filed I-140/I-485 concurrently even when the PD was current in June07 for me. It a Labor Substitution case so should I file new I-140 before July 16th with a copy of ALC and write a note or they will take out I-140 from the file and only return the I485? I cut a seperate check for I140 while filing.
please advice asap.
Thanks

The Orange County Register has an article about Immigration related policy making (CIR?) that is going on behind the scenes.
http://www.ocregister.com/ocregister/news/nationworld/article_1624369.php
Agreed that this is no New York Times or Washington Post report, but hey some news is better than no news at all, don't you agree?

The text of the article:
Kennedy says immigration bill will happen
California's Assembly Speaker meets with veteran lawmaker as part of Washington lobbying trip.
By DENA BUNIS
The Orange County Register
WASHINGTON Just because a comprehensive immigration bill has not yet been introduced in the Senate that doesn't mean the issue has gotten off the track, Sen. Edward Kennedy said today.
The Massachusetts Democrat said bipartisan negotiations are continuing both among the members of the Judiciary Committee and with the White House. The veteran lawmaker has made the calculation that it's better to get as much agreement on the elements of what is likely to be a complex and controversial bill before it gets introduced than after.
"It is the judgment of those who want the bill that the way we are following is the fastest way of getting the legislation,' said Kennedy. "Obviously we have to consider it on the floor in May or no later than June.''
Kennedy spoke to reporters about the status of an immigration bill this afternoon after a meeting with California Assembly Speaker Fabian Nuez and Assembly Republican leader Mike Villines. More than 30 state lawmakers are spending three days in the nation's Capitol, lobbying federal officials on issues ranging from education to the environment to immigration.
"We believe states like California are disproportionately affected by immigration since we have such a large population of undocumented in our state,'' said Nuez. "But we also believe these undocumented immigrants, whether they come here legally or not are a contributing factor to California's economy. We have hundreds of thousands of families that are looking forward to a comprehensive solution to immigration reform. "
Villines attended the meeting with Kennedy but skipped the following news conference.
"If is doesn't happen it isn't going to be for a lack of effort,'' said Nuez. The Assembly leader plans to meet today with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and he said he will make it clear that this is a top priority for state lawmakers.
When asked, Pelosi has said she supports a comprehensive bill but it is not an issue she often mentions when enumerating her top goals. A bipartisan group of House members are working on their own immigration bill, which could be introduced as early as this week.
That measure, as well as any bill Kennedy is a part of, will likely include increased border enforcement, a new guest worker program, and a computerized program to verify employment status and a path to legalization for the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants here now.
President Bush supports such a plan despite vocal opposition from members of his own party.
Kennedy has spent months negotiating a broad overhaul bill with his partner thus far in this effort, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz. But last week, after it became clear that there were still significant details the two could not agree on, Kennedy said he instead planned to bring back the bill that was voted out of the Judiciary Committee last year.
Also complicating the deal making this year are separate talks among a group of GOP senators and the White House. Several of the Republican senators involved in the talks are known not to be willing to vote for a bill that includes a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants.
Asked whether he is concerned about such a proposal, Kennedy indicated that such a bill wouldn't work.
"If the constituency groups and the stakeholders are not interested in this then the legislation isn't worth the paper it's printed on,'' he said.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., recently said she believes the best route to take may be to pass a bill that would affect the five million agricultural workers and do that as a first step towards a broader solution.
But Nuez said he doesn't favor such an approach.
Nuez said the labor needs of the inner cities in California and around the country wouldn't be taken care of if just agriculture is addressed.
"If you take care of the ags piece I fear it will be a long time before you get comprehensive reform in the other areas,'' Nuez said. "Our hope obviously in California, is that we can solve this problem in its entirety and do it in one effort."

As of Apr 28 2006, 12:00 PM(EST) we have collected $102,491.10. Our goal is to reach 150k by May 1st 2006. We are running short by just 50k. This is not a big task. We need only 500+ people to come forward and contribute $100+.
You can do it. Please come forward and contribute. There are many people who still have not contributed. Please come forward and do a nice favor to yourself. $100 is not a big amount for you. If people who are between the jobs can contribute, why can't we. There are no reasons for not contributing. IV have done a lot for the entire immigration community.
SO LET'S JOIN HANDS AND WORK TOGETHER TO REMOVE RETROGRESSION.
PLEASE CONTRIBUTE.
